Wouldn’t it be wonderful to actually stumble across a pot of gold!? Some of us my aready have one, or in other words, be financially secure and well-off. Though having money makes it easier to do stuff and buy more things, it does not bring happiness and joy. Whether we have money or not, we all experience in different ways and to different degrees the challenges of life. (more…)

Sometimes, the challenges of life can seem overwhelming, no matter how big or small our problems are, we can find ourselves truly swamped: by work, by worries, by responsibilities, etc.

The truth is, more often than not, the feeling of overwhelmingness comes directly from our head, we tend to think of our challenges as an enormous mountain that seems insurmountable, and we lose hope, we feel totally powerless and sometimes, we even give up.

Living Life to the Fullest

It seems like so many of us drift through everyday life just waiting for the chance to escape from it, dragging ourselves through the week just to get to that weekend “get-away”, finding a retreat to go to, or, at the other end of the spectrum, engaging in unhealthy and self-violent activities in hopes of forgetting about life. Withdrawing, retreating from Life, essentially means not wanting to live it. We cannot live life fully, if we wish to escape from it.

Sometimes life knows exactly what you need. It sifts through the eternal differences in the paths that lay ahead of you and plops something down, in your face that makes your life change for the better. It is something that is often lost in this world filled to the brim with desires of freedom and personal choice. We are told we make our dreams into reality. Live the life you desire. Putting a lot of pressure on our ability to make things happen, this can sometimes obscure our vision. Often times the desires that we feel most, that are most necessary for growth are the things that we are afraid of. Taking on a new career, turning a hobby into a passion, trying to live a dream.  (more…)

Embrace Fear and Change Your Life

Fear has a way of paralyzing us from pursuing our dreams, going in the direction of change, and being fully authentic in our lives. Most of us have yet to learn how to embrace fear, and truly allow ourselves to go through life unfazed by the external pressures that keep us “masked” from who we really are, and what really want out of life. Not too long ago I stumbled across a quote by Leonardo da Vinci that has become one of my personal favourites and part of my life philosophy; “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistocation”. I began to emulate this in all aspects of my life, especially when I found that it is an important teaching of Taoism. Eventually I found myself reading up on minimalism. It was then I decided to attempt to shift to a minimalist lifestyle.

In some respects it’s hard to remember what life was like before the advent of the internet and the endless array of smartphones, tablets and gadgets that have become de rigeur in modern culture. I mean, how did we access information before we could simply reach into our pocket and tap a few words into google? The internet and related gadgetry is a wonderful tool in many respects. Just about every piece of information known to man is available on tap, and we have the ability to connect with likeminded others and share anything we like. But as so often happens however, the servant can quickly become the master. (more…)

So this article is entitled “The Journey to Freedom”, because it is my hearts desire for readers to understand that coming into personal freedom is a journey. It doesn’t happen overnight and in my life particularly, it’s journey that has developed over the course of one year. It’s been full of bumps and bruises, ups and downs, but overall, as I sit here looking back on the journey I can say that it was definitely, absolutely, worth every single step, and it’s my hearts desire for you readers to come into your own personal freedom as well.
