My writings are generally about strategies for happy, healthy, wealthy and sustainble living - saving the world by earning genuine life satisfaction, gaining vibrant health and building complete financial security.

do the right thingIn this post we’ll talk about something called an intelligent micro-environment. Yep, I know it sounds pretty weird, but it really is quite simple. An intelligent micro-environment is simply a space within which doing the right thing becomes completely automatic and natural.

Unfortunately, the world we live in today (we’ll call that our macro-environment) seems to be custom-made to make all the wrong things automatic and natural. Junk food outlets are all around us, our cities are designed for cars and not for people, our jobs involve sitting on our asses in front of our PC’s for half the day, our leisure activities involve siting on our asses in front of the TV for the other half of the day, we see 5000 advertisements a day begging us to buy stuff we don’t need with money we don’t have… The list goes on, but this paragraph is already depressing enough.

If we are to resist the destructive pull of this macro-environment, we have to shield ourselves with intelligently designed micro-environments. Let’s look at a few simple examples:

  • We can ensure that our homes are always stocked with healthy and delicious food
  • We can automate our personal finances to ensure that we constantly save and stay out of debt
  • We can install renewable energy systems to automatically slash our carbon footprints

home-solar2As you will see over the coming months, this list becomes a lot longer and a lot more detailed, but the central principle remains unchanged: if we are to achieve happy, healthy, wealthy and sustainable lives, we have to build ourselves a set of intelligent micro-environments within which happy, healthy, wealthy and sustainable living happens automatically and naturally. If we unthinkingly leave ourselves exposed to our toxic macro-environment, we will continue to see gains in bodyweight, debt and stress instead of health, wealth and happiness.

The journey begins in the next post when we start taking a detailed look at the construction of an intelligent micro-environment for personal health.

    Great post!

My philosophy to doing the right thing is that “if it doesn’t feel right, it can’t be right”. I’ve learned that my gut is a lot smarter than my brain. Fortunately, my brain has learned to give ways to my gut. :-)

The key to a happy life is to be centered and know what it takes (for you) to be happy. A lot of times, it’s not what people out their make you believe.

Look forward to reading more wonderful posts on this site.

    Happy holidays,

    Thanks Jean,

Yep, like most things in life, it’s all about finding that balance – this time between brain and gut. My philosophy is simply to use my brain to ensure that I spend as much time as possible in places where my automatic “gut” actions will automatically lead to happy, healthy, wealthy and sustainable living.

Happy holidays to you too :-)
